Biography

Basinia Shulman is a bright example of the famous Russian piano school. Born in Moscow, she studied in the renowned Gnesin School and then in the Moscow State Conservatory named after Tchaikovsky (class of the outstanding pianist, professor Eliso Virsaladze), followed by postgraduate studies in the Brussels Conservatory under the direction of Eugeny Mogilevsky.

Basinia Shulman is a laureate of international competitions:

1990 Jose Iturbi Competition, Spain, 3d prize;
1991 Ragusa Ibla, Italy, 2nd prize;
2000 Artlivre, Brazil, 1st prize.

Since being a student, Basinia has been actively touring both in Russia and abroad. She performed on board the liner «Queen Elizabeth 2» (world tour), participated in musical festivals in Kreuth (Germany), Colmar, Valberg (France), Moscow, «Palace Petersburg» in Saint Petersburg, «Amstel evenings» Amsterdam and many others. She performed with such orchestras as New Opera, Moscow Orchestra, Moscow Camerata, State Russian Chamber Orchestra directed by Konstantin Orbelian, Philharmonic orchestras of Spain, Brazil, Lithuania, Russia and other countries. Basinia Shulman has been actively and successfully touring in Russia and abroad, performing in such prestigious hall as Grand Hall of the Conservatory, Tchaikovsky Concert Hall , International House of Music, Albert Hall (London), Beethoven Hall (Germany), Theatro Municipal Sao Paolo, Maksoud Plaza, Gran Teatro Valencia and others.

Besides her solo activity she often performs in chamber genre. Among her partners there are such outstanding musicians as Yury Bashmet and Vadim Repin, Borodin Quartet, ensembles with the soloists of such orchestras as «Soloists of Moscow» directed by Yury Bashmet and «Virtuosi of Moscow» under Vladimir Spivakov, Federico Mondelci (saxofon) and others.
Performing preferences of Basinia Shulman change over time, but her commitment to musical romance remains unchanged.
The pianist is primarily distinguished by highly professional performance and rich experience in «serious» music in academic halls. But at the same time, looking for «her own» place in the world of music and for her own way to the listener Basinia Shulman boldly breaks with tradition: she offers improvisations based on classical works, plays with jazz musicians – creates the first project of the kind in Russia «Moscow – Rio – New York» together with the laureates of two Grammy awards American jazz pianist Milcho Leviev, and the project «Classic, Jazz and Salon of the 20s» together with the famous saxophonist Alexei Kozlov and other projects in crossover genre.
Basinia Is a frequent guest on radio and television.
During many years Basinia Shulman produces different musical projects and programmes .
